UPDATE 22nd March 2016: Thinking of those in Turkey and Brussels affected by more recent attacks.

The recent events in Paris have shaken the world. The sad fact is that awful attacks such as this are happening all over the world and are not always reported. There were 21 terrorist attacks in November 2015 alone.

My heart aches. As an Empath, Clairsentient, HSP, INFP etc I feel these things so deeply, as I know many of you do. It’s OK to feel our own sadness and rage about such events but try not to take on the pain of others my friends. Look after yourselves. Breathe. Take salt baths. Burn incense. Cry and rage. Hug a loved one and breathe again.

We are not helpless. We can make a difference. Sure there are charities we can support like the Red Cross or peace organisations we can be part of. Physical action is needed. However, for those of us who are intuitive, who are Earth Angels, Lightworkers, healers, creatives and change-agents, we know there is also another way to create transformation.

And that is to embrace our feminine power (in men and women) and to access our ability to create change from the INSIDE-OUT.

When we are highly sensitive, empathic and intuitive or are navigating the inner shifts of awakening, we can become very impressionable and easily lose ourselves.

Other people and their opinions and realities can draw us in, causing us to drift away from our own truth. Social media can fill our energy fields with multiple viewpoints and energy deposits every day. Plus we tend to be more open to other realms and spirits and the collective experience and so can forget who we are.

This isn’t because we are weak souls, not by any means, our sensitivity is our strength, however, as Empaths we take on the thoughts and feelings of others every day and they can cloud our own reality and make us scattered, fragmented and ungrounded.

This can cause us to lose our energy and power without even knowing it’s happening.

As a sensitive soul I often feel overwhelmed by a busy and overstimulating world. I used to think I was failing because I couldn’t cope with it.

I used to get paranoid because I could feel what people were feeling and knew what they were thinking but they rarely showed it or admitted to it. It felt like dishonesty even when it wasn’t.

Somehow everyone else got the guide book of how to be in this world and I didn’t get a copy.

When the SHIFT hits the fan sometimes all we can do is run for cover and do our best to keep going.

We dig in, run on adrenaline, coffee or whatever else gets us through. We are in survival mode because our ‘fight, freeze or flight’ mechanism has really kicked in.

We need that mechanism, it’s helping us, but the adrenaline only lasts so long until the pain and exhaustion kicks in.

OK let me say right away this isn’t about what size you are or trying to make you feel you need to be slimmer. Gawd! There’s enough of that pressure on women around already. No this is about understanding why as Empaths our bodies can behave so strangely and how to let go of emotional weight that is affecting you in more important ways than the number on your clothing label!

We sensitives, intuitives and empaths have a tendency to carry emotional weight. Maybe it acts as a buffer against the energy of other people and places, maybe it’s because we comfort eat to ground ourselves again after getting overstimulated by said energies or perhaps there is an accumulation of energy in our bodies that isn’t ours.

Maybe it’s all of those things.

Do you know how COURAGEOUS you are?

“Do you know how courageous you are?”

I was moved to tears the other day when my dear friend Charo Pinilla of ‘Tapping Your Purpose said those words to me.

All I could do was gulp and say “thank you”.

 

In those words she was acknowledging how hard it must have been all these years (about 16 so far) to walk my path alone, without people who really understand, to keep trusting, to get up each morning knowing that I had been through something extraordinary, a spiritual crisis and awakening that was off the charts and that it wasn’t respected or recognised in my culture.

 

She was acknowledging how hard it is to live in a world knowing that who you are, what you have experienced and what you believe gets sneered at or even worse could get me locked up for being a crazy person if I say the wrong thing to the wrong person.

How to create your Spiritual Support Kit

None of us can do this alone. We all need a little help.

Life can get confusing. The path of remembering who we are can be frustrating. The shifts and changes can get emotional and challenging.

Sometimes we reach out to friends and family and sometimes we invest in ourselves and work with a healer or mentor.

But what happens when that isn’t always possible? What happens when we are sitting at home feeling paralysed by emotion, fatigue and confusion. Or, what if you are in that time between healing and mentoring sessions and you want to be able to take care of yourself and assert your spiritual self-reliance?
